Executive Summary
Tools for Humanity (TFH), a technology company building for humans in the age of AI, has partnered with Outtake to deploy Outtake Verify for Email – a lightweight browser extension that cryptographically signs communication via World ID or unique device passkey – across their organization to protect sensitive workflows. Within weeks of the product being introduced, over 100 TFH employees installed Outtake Verify for Email. A cohort of power users with heavy external communications emerged organically, verifying around 70% of their outbound emails.
For a distributed global organization like TFH, Outtake Verify is already helping to advance security on vendor payments, giving recruiters a trusted way to prove their legitimacy to top candidates, and safeguarding executive communications.
The Challenge
Email lacks a built-in authentication layer, yet enterprises still rely on it for sensitive communications. This comes at a cost: phishing is the most common type of email based attack, and breaches caused by phishing – the most common data breach vector– cost enterprises an average $4.9M per incident (IBM). Business email compromise (“BEC”), a subset of email phishing, cost organizations at least $2.8B in 2024 alone (FBI). Organizations need a more reliable way to safeguard email communications.
As a contributor to World, TFH saw email authentication as a natural use case for proof of human. In an era where AI-powered phishing is outsmarting traditional filters, only a deterministic, cryptographic proof can confirm that a message truly came from a verified human. And as AI agents increasingly join the enterprise workflow, being able to distinguish human-typed vs. AI-generated emails will be essential — especially for sensitive, high-stakes communications.
The Solution
TFH implemented Outtake Verify for Email, which cryptographically signs emails via World ID or passkey, to provide deterministic sender authentication. The browser extension creates “Verified” badges for recipients, ensuring they know the email was sent by a verified human.
Impact and Use Cases
After a phased rollout, TFH permissioned Outtake Verify for Email across its global workforce, enabling teams to easily build trust into sensitive internal and external communications. With a single click, Julian, TFH IT, provisioned SSO access, automatically triggering employee onboarding invitations. He said, "The setup process was straightforward and quick. The solution is an elegant way to further advance email security at TFH."
FP&A teams used Verified emails for vendor communications, talent teams verified their outreach to high-value candidates, and executives adopted the system because their exposure in external communications is especially high, making trusted email a top priority. They viewed the rollout as a positive example of security with a seamless user experience.
In a moment when recruitment scams are being widely reported, TFH’s Talent team valued being able to add a verification mark to outbound emails. Taylor, TFH Recruiting, noted Verify "was fast and seamless" and that "having a Verified mark on the end of the email gives credibility when reaching out to candidates facing a lot of malicious actors."
Looking Ahead
TFH’s successful deployment demonstrates that proactive email authentication can become a standard enterprise control. As the first wave of organizations to implement cryptographic email signing via World ID, they've established a foundation for broader industry adoption.
TFH plans to make Verify a core part of its employee onboarding experience, ensuring every team member starts with trusted communication from day one. As a design partner, TFH will continue working closely with Outtake to shape the product’s evolution and bring trusted verification into every layer of digital work.
